On Saturday 5th December 2020, Mercy Education Office in the company of our Partner African Jesuits AIDS Network- AJAN had the opportunity to pay a visit to St. Michaels mixed Secondary School. The school Principal Mr. Jasper Obiri ushered us in and the students were settled and ready to listen to what we had for them.
To facilitate free expression and proper Interaction with the students, the teachers gladly went about other business away from the hall.
Fr. Ismael Matambura, Director AJAN kicked off the day by reminding and seeking to enable the young people to understand that they are al special creatures of God, and with special purpose on earth which God expects all to attain. He embarked on helping them cultivate the right attitude towards God, others and Life.
Janet from MEO followed as she indulged the students in the subject of sexuality which led to a discussion about pornography and other vices young people often fall into if not careful, well- informed, or with the right mindset.
AJAN Trainer Rosemary Thungu took up the role of engaging the students in directing sexuality further.
A group session where students discussed and presented on various questions which were drafted by the trainers came afterwards, and in this, the students demonstrated powerful presentation skills and some humour. A question & Answer session came in in the afternoon as students were given an opportunity to pose any question they had. The trainers helped the students find answers through avid reflection and reasoning.
Afterwards, there was a healing session which sought to reconcile the students with God and enabled them to forget any personal hurts. The day ended up so well and the teachers thanked the Panel for visiting the school.
