The college was established in 1968 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy with the help of CAFOD England. At the time, there was great need for trained secretaries to work in the Government Institutions, the civil service, in schools and in various other places. The College was started with the aim of providing courses especially the Secretarial training to students for the development of skills necessary for the employment in the public, private and local sectors. The major beneficiaries were the girls from the neighboring communities who could not find places in other courses or learning institutions by then.
The College has been in existence for more than forty years, having trained thousands of secretaries who are today holding key positions in the public and private sectors in the country. The impact and fruits of the College continues to be felt by the society- near and far- as more young ladies continue to enroll and acquire the skills needed for them to secure the Secretarial jobs in the different organizations today. The College is managed by The Congregation of Sisters of Mercy who are the Trustees and financiers of the college. The college has a Board of Management which assists in the management of the college. The institution has the Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Departments and the Staff both teaching and non-teaching.
