The workshop was organized by the Franciscans Africa, office of Justice, Peace and Integrity for Creation (JPIC) located at the Portiuncula, Franciscan Centre near Catholic University. The objective of the workshop was to bring together stakeholders, organizations, civil society and human rights groups that work with people living in extreme poverty, to discuss, brainstorm and seek possible solutions to the issues they face in education, health, housing and youth empowerment on public participation in governance and community affairs. The workshop was based on a study carried out on Mukuru Kwa Ruben slums. Facilitators included Sr. Ann Celestine and Sister Mary .F. (Justice, Peace and Integrity,Franciscans Africa)Dr. Peter Onyango Onyoyo (Lecturer Nairobi University) Dennis Ongare (Chair, Pax Romana/ Kenya Movement for Catholic Professionals’) Jane (Akiba Mashinani Trust/ Muungano Wa Wanakijiji) and Individuals living in poverty from Mukuru.
